The hands are large and the classical radiological features include generalised soft tissue thickening, widening of the joint spaces due to hypertrophy of the articular cartilages, prominent muscle insertions particularly along the metacarpal shafts, tufting of the tips of the terminal phalanges and prominent osteophyte formation. In addition, in this patient, degenerative cysts are present in some of the carpal bones, particularly in the right carpus.
